Organisations from across Surrey came together in Haslemere last Saturday to celebrate sustainability and the environment.

It was a day of fun and learning in advance of international Earth Day, which is celebrated annually around the world to educate and activate the environmental movement.

Families enjoyed a variety of displays, information stalls and children’s activities provided by various organisations including the RSPB, the Woodland Trust and the Wildlife Aid Foundation and museums such as the Rural Life Living Museum.

Haslemere Museum’s Education Officer, Kay Topping said. “There were lots of activities for children and information for adults, and lots of partners all passionate about the environment.”

The event took place in the gardens of Haslemere Museum, where there was also a sale of pre-loved clothes to promote reusing and preventing landfill.

This year’s theme for Earth Day was planets vs plastics in an effort to try and reduce the world’s plastics use.
