Time to nominate local sporting heroes

Don’t forget to make your nominations for the 2017 Farnham Sports Awards.

Nominations can be made through the Active Surrey website, and the local award-winners from all the districts in the county will go forward for short-listing to the Surrey Sports Awards, where Farnham has enjoyed unrivalled success in recent years.

In 2016 Lucy Edgar from Frensham Pond Sailability won the Young Volunteer of the Year award and the previous year Farnham enjoyed massive success scooping the Surrey Sports’ Personality of the Year, the Sports Coach of the Year and the Disabled Sports Personality of the Year categories.

Marion Stockley, secretary of the Farnham Sports Council said: “There are so many talented and high-achieving sportsmen and women, boys and girls in Farnham, that we’d love to give them the recognition they deserve. There are also categories for successful sports teams and clubs, as well as coaches, disabled sportspeople and those who give great service to local sport.

“We’d strongly encourage clubs and individuals to check out the Active Surrey website for all the award categories and a nomination form. It’s www.activesurrey.com.”

One of the Farnham judges, Sue Keogh, said that the standard of nominations was always high in Farnham but the judging panel would welcome applications in respect of any deserving individual, team or club.

“It’s a very easy process to nominate, but when completing the form on-line on the Active Surrey website. Please be sure you follow the criteria set out by Active Surrey as closely as possible,” she said. “It’s simply designed to be fair and do justice to all nominations. All worthy entries will be acknowledged at the Farnham Sports Awards evening in October. It’s a great occasion.”

Nominations close on the Active Surrey website on August 31.
