Standing spectators at Alton FC will have somewhere to shelter from the rain next season.
Stadium Solutions began work on a new cover over the terrace on the dugouts side of the Anstey Park Enclosure on June 29 and it is expected to be completed in a week’s time.
The terracing is a remnant of the ground’s previous life as the home of Alton Town before its years at the Bass Ground.
But the ageing cover was removed as part of plans to upgrade the Enclosure to Wessex League standards in preparation for Alton Town’s move there in December 2015.
The Brewers’ fans got their first look at the new roof on July 4, a few hours after our picture was taken, when Basingstoke Town visited for Alton’s first pre-season friendly.
A crowd of 179 saw the team from the Southern League Premier Division - three tiers above Wessex Division 1 Alton - win 5-1.
All their goals came in the first half, with Regan Hitch pulling one back after the break with a free kick from the edge of the box.
