FARNHAM’S local Division 1 floorball hockey team, Southern Vipers, are on track for a place in the National Championships after picking up three points with an 8-0 win over Bristol.
The team were lacking a few key players but still outclassed the visitors in the match played at Haslemere on April 23.
The second match against the top London side, the Great White Sharks, was a 6-2 loss but the Farnham team still have enough points to keep them on track to finish in the top three of Division 1. The top three teams of each UK regional league automatically qualify for a place at the National Championships in June, when floorball takes over the National Football Centre at St George’s Park, Burton upon Trent.
The Vipers squad was made up of nine out of 11 players from the youth team, Farnham Fireballs, who announced this week that they have accepted an offer from one of the world’s top floorball clubs to take part in the Storvreta Cup in Sweden at New Year. The event takes place at the new £32 million floorball sports centre and is usually attended by about 700 teams. The organisers were keen to have a British youth team at the event and so offered free accommodation, food and entry fees.
