This victory gave Alton the league championship.
From the first whistle they closed down Haslemere and gave them no time on the ball.
Chances began to flow for Alton, with the Haslemere keeper making multiple saves.
A shot hit a Haslemere player on the foot in front of goal, allowing Alton to take the lead with a mishit penalty flick that went through the keeper’s legs.
In the second half Haslemere equalised from a short corner awarded after a waist-high ball struck an Alton player.
Alton did not panic, continued to work hard and made chances. From a short corner, Dominic Samuelson drilled the ball at knee height towards the goal and Wilson (senior), with lightning reflexes, diverted it into the Haslemere net.
The Alton defence repeatedly repelled Haslemere’s efforts to draw level again, and with five minutes left the Haslemere keeper leapt like a salmon to palm a long-range thunderbolt away from the top corner.
With seconds left, another wave of Alton attacking resulted in a short corner from which Samuelson smashed the ball home to clinch the title.
